Pacific Cacao: A Realm of Spirit #5
On the Road: a re-ignition on the imagination, a re-touch on The Way
Spent the night stargazing and getting wet, courtesy of Saguaro Lake. Previously, A frosty dip with Gabriela under the AZ sun at the salt river inspired the Mountain Man Energon within me (in a pure way). So I got thinking, especially with “the winter arc” underway, how does one get “Back On, and Upward”?
Granted the reader is on his “Superhero Arc”,
I propose Embarking on a journey that involves train travel, ranch work, and exploring national parks for a whole year, a promise to be an enriching and unforgettable experience. We’re talking ultimate “street cred” here, but a breed that comes only from within, a breed that “absolutely fookin’ nobody” can take from you.
Ladies, Gentlemen,
SABERMAN 1: A One Year Quest.
1. Schooled in Momentum:
Research and select a train pass or ticket that offers flexibility and access to various destinations. Consider options like Amtrak in the United States or Eurail in Europe.
Plan your route, considering both iconic train journeys and off-the-beaten-path routes of freight quality. For example, in the United States, the Amtrak's Coast Starlight offers stunning views along the Pacific coast, while the Empire Builder traverses the northern plains and Rocky Mountains.
Embrace the journey by spending time on the train observing the scenery without internet, interacting with the divine disguised as fellow passengers, and immersing yourself in the unique, aristocratic atmosphere of traveling by locomotive.
2. The Source of Human Life:
Research ranches across different regions that offer work exchange or employment opportunities. Websites like Workaway and WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) can be useful resources, but you can also just talk to people.
Choose ranches that align with your interests and desired experiences, whether it's working with cattle, horses, or participating in sustainable agriculture practices; there’s so much to learn.
Embrace the ranch, build the character. (you take care of the farm, the farm takes care of you.
3. National Parks, Exploration of God Builds:
Research national parks in the regions you'll be traveling through and prioritize visiting those with diverse landscapes and ecosystems.
Obtain necessary permits and passes, such as the America the Beautiful Pass in the United States, which grants access to over 2,000 federal recreation sites.
Spend time hiking, camping, and exploring the natural wonders of each national park. Take advantage of ranger-led programs and guided tours to deepen your understanding of the park's ecology and history.
Capture your experiences through photography, journaling, or creative expression to preserve memories and share them with others.
4. Logistics and Practical Considerations:
But remember, having no plan is still a plan.
Budget for transportation, accommodation, food, and other expenses. Heavily consider options like camping in national parks or staying in budget accommodations during train stops, yet you may find it surprising how well you can live with no food or man made roofing!
Pack appropriate gear and clothing for each leg of your journey, taking into account varying weather conditions and the physical demands of ranch work and outdoor activities. Be unafraid of thinning and thickening the inventory too, this is a valuable lesson.
5. Reflection and Growth:
Enjoy this quest as an opportunity for total upgrade; the world is the classroom.

put in the journal labor to document your experiences, insights, and reflections along the way. Take time to disconnect from technology and immerse yourself fully in each moment.
